Stranger Things 3 has just hit Netflix, but let's be honest: fans are going to want more. The latest installment of the hit '80s-inspired sci-fi show has a left some big questions unanswered, which means viewers are likely expecting another chapter ahead. The details surrounding a Stranger Things 4 remain slim for now, but we've gathered everything we know so far.
1 | Producer and director Shawn Levy says another season is coming.
In the past few years, the Stranger Things creative team has dropped hints that the series would continue for more than three seasons. Shawn Levy conclusively told Collider in April 2018, "I mean I will say we have a good sense of stuff that happens in Season 4. Season 4 is definitely happening." However, those storylines have not yet been revealed.
2 | It's unclear if this will be the last season.
Levy told Collider that there's "very much the possibility" of the show going for more than four seasons, but "that's currently undecided."
He also told Entertainment Weekly in 2017, "The truth is we’re definitely going four seasons and there’s very much the possibility of a fifth. Beyond that, it becomes I think very unlikely."
However, showrunner Ross Duffer is ready for the next season to be the show's last. He told Vulture in 2017, "We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out." He was concerned that the story would grow to be too much for our beloved characters in Hawkins, Indiana. "I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year," he said. "They’re going to have to get the fuck out of this town!"
3 | The Duffer Brothers are still on board.
In February 2018, rumors circulated that Matt and Ross Duffer would no longer be involved in Stranger Things "in a showrunner capacity" after Season 3, but Netflix quickly shut that gossip down.
"Don't drop your Eggos. Rumors that the Duffer Bros are leaving Stranger Things after Season 3 are false," the company tweeted.
4 | The story will move outside of Hawkins.
The Duffer Brothers told Entertainment Weekly that they want to take the story beyond Hawkins for Season 4. "I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins," Matt Duffer told EW. His brother, Ross Duffer, also confirmed that the show would explore what was revealed in the Season 3 post-credits sequence: particularly, what the Russians are doing with a Demogorgon, and the identity of "the American" in the cell.
5 | Caleb McLaughlin wants another dramatic arc for Lucas.
The man behind Lucas refused to confirm to Entertainment Weekly whether Season 4 of the show is even happening, but he did reveal he wants more "clutch" moments in future seasons, like Lucas's pivotal use of the slingshot in Season 3. He also revealed he'd like to see Lucas's relationship with Max (Sadie Sink) evolve.
6 | Maya Hawke wants to see Robin in the video store.
At the end of Season 3, Robin (Maya Hawke) secured a job at the local movie rental store. In an interview with Consequence of Sound, Hawke said she wants to see her character's new job play out. "So many of the great minds of the ‘80s and ‘80s filmmakers and creatives started out working in video stores, and as far as I know, that environment hasn’t really been explored on TV," she said.
